Power In The Holy Spirit

Opening Scripture

“For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power.”

What is Power

The Greek word for “power” is “δύναμις” (dynamis), which refers to the ability, might, strength, or capability. God is power and in this post, we will dive into the working power of the Holy Ghost. We have had the Holy Spirit in the old testament who guided several and gave them POWER to do extraordinary things. One of them being Samson, King David, King Solomon, Gideon, and many others.

Now we are living in a dispensation in which the outpouring of the Holy Spirit is high. Look at this verse “And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams.”

The kingdom of God is about power. This power is being demonstrated all over by men of God filled with the Holy Spirit. Look at this other verse, “And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.”

This is the prophecy from Isaiah to the early church and to this generation. What a wonderful time we’re living in! The Bible says “So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the Lord Almighty.

In other words, we’re operating in the power gifts. Remember I said the word power ‘dynamis’ means might, strength to do extraordinary things. These power gifts. The Lord has given to us so that the church can grow and bring impact to the world. Paul says in this scripture, There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.

Now to each one, the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gift of healing by that one Spirit, to other miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

Everyone has a calling. As well as a gift. Only most Christians are NOT AWARE of these Spiritual gifts they possess. The desire of God is for us to identify these gifts and use them to edify the church. So somebody reading this post may be asking how can one know his Spiritual gift or what he or she is called to do.

How To Identify Your Spiritual Gift.

This can be identified in different ways. Let me give myself an example. I came to know I had a gift of teaching through asking myself some questions which led to certain answers. Who am I? Where am I going? there is one question I asked myself that led to identifying this gift.

This is what I said to myself. “When teaching something I find others saying things like, wow! what a teaching, I got everything”. From there I know I had this gift. Another one is through confirmation from a man of God.

This was during a conference. The theme of the conference was “You’ve been raised for a purpose”. During the anointing service. When we were all being prayed for individually. The prophet of God confirmed just as I stepped near him that I had been called “INTO TEACHING MINISTRY”. Indeed this was a confirmation of the previous story.

He went ahead to say things like “I see you in Bible colleges and other learning institutions”. Glory to God! So that’s my story and indeed I became a university Lecturer where I teach. Imagine I just landed that Job IMMEDIATELY after campus!

In Identifying your Spiritual Gift you need to ask yourself these questions…

1. What are my natural abilities and talents?

2. What do I enjoy doing and what comes easily to me?

3. In what areas do I feel particularly passionate or excited about?

4. Have others recognized any spiritual gifts in me?

5. In what ways do I feel led by the Holy Spirit to use my abilities to serve others or build up the Church?

6. Have I experienced any supernatural events or felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in my life?

7. What do I feel the Lord is calling me to do with my life?

By reflecting on these questions, you can gain a better understanding of your spiritual gifts and how they can be used to serve God and others. Remember, it’s important to seek guidance from the Holy Spirit and wise counsel from other believers as you discern your gifts and calling.

It is after knowing your Spiritual Gift you can then proceed. Being filled with the power of the Holy Spirit is important for the gifts to work efficiently. In other words, without the Power of the Holy Spirit what I call the anointing of God it is impossible to make an IMPACT in the kingdom of God.

You can see in the Book of Acts the Bible says they were filled with the Holy Spirit. So they began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. We know from that experience they moved with power where they did all kinds of miracles such as healing the sick, casting out demons, and so forth.

Conclusion

You NEED the POWER of the HOLY SPIRIT. Get him NOW.
