Indwelling Of The HolySpirit

Defining Indwelling

What is Indwelling? Let’s begin here. A simple dictionary defines it as being permanently present in ( someone’s soul or mind); possess spiritually. “the Holy Spirit indwells God’s people” The Greek words for Indwelling or dwell are as follows study them carefully…

Oikeo “to dwell” (from Oikos, “a house”), “to inhabit as one’s abode”

Katoikeo “to settle down in a dwelling, to dwell fixedly in a place”

Enoikeo “to dwell in”

Meno “to abide, remain”

Opening Scripture

Let’s have an opening scripture the bible says in (2 Timothy 1:14) Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you. The Indwelling of the Holy Spirit defines a BORN-AGAIN BELIEVER. This all started on the day of Pentecost. When Christ ascended to heaven he promised his disciples they would be filled with the Holy Spirit and it happened.

In the 2nd Acts the bible says “When the day of Pentecost arrived, they were all together in one place. And suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting. And divided tongues as of fire appeared to them and rested on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

From that time their lives were never the same. They did wonders and this was the start of the early church. They performed mighty miracles through the Holy Spirit. They changed the lives of other people and the list goes on. When the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in you there is power. Look at this scripture “But as many as received Him, to THEM GAVE HE THE POWER TO BECOME THE SONS OF GOD, even to those who believe in His name. (John 1:12)

What You Must Do To Receive The Holy Spirit

The prerequisite here is belief. I remember when I received the Holy Spirit. There was DESIRE and FAITH. For Holy Spirit to dwell in you, you need to do TWO key things. First is REPENTANCE and BELIEF.

Let’s look at scriptures that support this. In (Acts 2:38) this is what the bible says Peter replied “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

(Mark 1:15) says, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” So what is repentance? “to turn from evil, and to turn to the good.” “To Change the Mind”, “to have another mind,” to change the opinion or purpose with regard to sin. After this happens, you now need to believe in Jesus Christ that he came and died so that you and I can be forgiven and receive everlasting life.

The Holy Spirit will come and Indwell in you. One of the pieces of evidence of the Indwelling of the Holy Ghost is SPEAKING IN TONGUES. As well as the fruits of the HolySpirit such as (Galatians 5:22-23) – But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law.
