The 9 Fruits Of The Holy Spirit
What are The 9 Fruits Of The Holy Spirit?
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law.” – Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)
What do we mean by the fruits of the Holy Spirit? When the Holy Spirit comes upon any Believer what happens is he or she becomes filled with the Holy Spirit. He begins to bear these fruits such as love, peace, kindness, and the rest mentioned above. This is a true test of a Believer who is filled with the power of God. Look at the part he says “against such things there is no law” what does he mean?
This means that the qualities produced by the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer are not in opposition to any law. In fact, these qualities fulfill the moral requirements of the law. They are the opposite of the works of the flesh that Paul mentions earlier in the chapter, which include things like sexual immorality,
idolatry, and envy.
By saying that there is no law against the fruit of the Spirit, Paul is indicating that these virtues are not condemned by the law. Instead, they represent the true essence of what the law is trying to accomplish – the transformation of our hearts and minds to reflect the character of God. So, a life characterized by love, joy, peace, and the other fruit of the Spirit is a life that is pleasing to God and fulfilling His intention for us as His people.
How To Be Filled With The Holy Spirit.
For you to be filled with the Fruits of the Holy Spirit you need to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit first. Look at this scripture Peter replied, ‘Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'” – Acts 2:38 (NIV) So the requirements here are REPENT and Be BAPTIZED.
What is it to repent? In the New Testament, the Greek word for repent is “metanoeo” which means to change one’s mind, to turn around, or to have a change of heart. It involves a complete turning away from sin and a turning toward God
In the Old Testament, the Hebrew word for repent is “shuv” which means to turn back or to return. It also involves a turning away from sin and a return to God. What about Baptism? The Greek word for Baptism is “baptisma” (βάπτισμα), which means “immersion, submersion, or washing.” In a Christian context, it refers to the act of being submerged in water as a symbolic representation of the believer’s identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
Let me give you my testimony of how I received the Holy Spirit!
I remember when I was filled with the Holy Spirit. It was back in 2016. All of a sudden I felt so much peace in my heart. Is there peace from the fruits above? yes! so that’s evidence of him dwelling in me. I also felt Joy, love, and the rest of the fruits. For me to be filled with the Holy Spirit. I had a lot going on.
So what happened was I watched a video that spoke about the Holy Spirit and of course, there were so many videos out there, especially on YouTube. But this one was unique! I listened and the person narrating described how to get the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues as well.
Before watching the video I had a DESIRE for the Holy Spirit to fill me. Take note of the keyword desire it’s important for you to acquire anything you want in this universe. It did not take long before the Lord filled me with his Spirit. But let me describe to you something here.
Before I received him a lot was going on. What I mean, is I was struggling with various addictions. I had no intimacy with Christ. Then what happened I attended a fellowship that I found in India when I was studying for my undergraduate. In this fellowship, I began to know more about Christ. The other brethren were already filled with the Holy Spirit. So that’s where the desire came from.
It took some time for God to mold me. At first, I did not know but afterwords I can testify the Lord was preparing me to receive him at a given moment in time.:) Now just as I said I was struggling with addictions. I approached one of the members of the fellowship who became a dear friend to me. I explained to him the struggles I had and he prayed for me. I remember It was back in 2016. After a period of days, the Lord filled me with his Spirit and I was a new man.
The Bible says Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new. Indeed! (2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV)
Conclusion
The Holy Spirit desires to dwell in our lives. For you to live a fulfilled life you need to be filled by the Spirit of God. Now this means doing God’s work becomes super easy. Have you had of this scripture “for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.” – Hebrews 4:10 ESV.
This scripture is from Paul he is talking about entering into rest. This also means “For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” – Philippians 2:13 (ESV) There are so many Believers out there who are tired. In their places of work and in the church etc. The Bible says fervently in Spirit doing God’s work. The Holy Spirit is a helper and a guide. Most Christians are NOT utilizing him.
